John Henley
John Henley (1692–1756), known as Orator Henley, was an eccentric English clergyman, preacher, and author born in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.[3][4] Educated at Cambridge, he published works including the poem 'Esther, Queen of Persia' (1714) and 'The Complete Linguist' (1719–1721), and gained fame for opening an oratory in London in 1726 where he delivered theatrical sermons that initially drew large crowds.[3][4] His audience dwindled over time, and he died in 1756.[4]
