John Gardner

John Champlin Gardner Jr. was an American novelist, essayist, literary critic, and university professor best known for the novel "Grendel," a retelling of the Beowulf myth from the monster’s point of view. He was a prominent and sometimes controversial literary figure whose work included fiction, criticism, and teaching in medieval literature and creative writing.
