John F. Barell

John F. Barell (John Ferguson Barell) is Professor Emeritus of Curriculum and Teaching at Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ, and a former public school teacher in New York City who specialized in inquiry-based instruction and problem-based learning[1][3]. He authored several educational books including *Teaching for Thoughtfulness* (1995) and *Developing More Curious Minds* (2003), and also wrote numerous books on Antarctica[1][4]. Barell died on November 17, 2017, at age 79, having been born in Rochester, NY on July 9, 1938[4].
