John Cleland

John Cleland (1709–1789) was an English novelist best known for the erotic classic Fanny Hill; or, Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure. He also worked in the East India Company and spent time in debtors' prison, where he completed the novel that made him famous. Later in life, he wrote as a journalist and playwright.
