John Cartwright
John Cartwright (1740–1824), known as Major Cartwright, was a British naval officer and radical political reformer who advocated for universal suffrage, annual parliaments, and the secret ballot. He is often called the 'Father of Reform' and founded the Hampden Club to unite moderates and radicals for parliamentary change[1][3][5]. His major works include 'Take Your Choice' (1776) and 'The English Constitution,' which outlined his vision for a government led by the people[3][4].
