John Burgoyne

John Burgoyne was a British army officer, politician, and playwright best known for his failed 1777 Saratoga campaign during the American Revolutionary War. After returning to Britain, he became known for his dramatic works, including "The Heiress," and remained active in public life until his death in 1792.
