Joan Liftin

Joan Liftin is an American photographer born in 1935, known for her documentation of the civil rights movement in the American South, assignments for UNICEF in countries like Haiti, Peru, Chile, Algeria, and Iran, and personal projects including her life with photographer Charles Harbutt. She began her career as a photo editor at the United Nations from 1971 to 1975, later joined Magnum Photos, and served as Director of the Magnum Photo Library until 1980. Her notable books include Water for Tears, Drive-ins, and Marseille, with works exhibited and published widely.
