James Payne

James Payn (1830–1898) was an English novelist and editor born in Cheltenham, England. He studied at Eton and Cambridge, later editing Chambers's Journal and the Cornhill Magazine while publishing nearly fifty novels, including *Lost Sir Massingberd* and *By Proxy*.
