James N. Gilbert

James N. Gilbert is a historian and author of eleven books on twentieth-century American history and eight novels, including the Amanda Pennyworth mystery series. He earned his B.A. magna cum laude from Carleton College, M.A. in 1963 and Ph.D. in 1966 from the University of Wisconsin, and served as Professor of History at the University of Maryland from 1966 to 2012. Born in Chicago, he has lived abroad in nine countries and currently resides in Silver Spring, Maryland.
