James; Milroy Lesley Milroy
James Robert Dunlop Milroy (1933–2017) was a British linguist who pioneered the development of sociolinguistics and co-authored influential works on English dialects with his wife, Lesley Milroy. He held professorships at Queen's University Belfast, the University of Sheffield, Newcastle University, and the University of Michigan, where he conducted most of his research alongside Lesley.
