James Kirke Paulding
James Kirke Paulding (1778-1860) was an American writer, satirist, and public official best known for collaborating with Washington Irving on the satirical periodical Salmagundi and for his anti-British works like The Diverting History of John Bull and Brother Jonathan during the War of 1812 era. He authored novels such as Konigsmarke, the Long Finne and The Dutchman's Fireside, created the iconic character Nimrod Wildfire in The Lion of the West, and later served as U.S. Secretary of the Navy under President Martin Van Buren from 1838 to 1841.[1][2][3][4]
