James Carey

James William Carey (1934–2006) was an American communication theorist, media critic, and influential journalism instructor who taught at the University of Illinois and later Columbia University. He is best known for developing the ritual view of communication and for his landmark book Communication as Culture, which shaped modern media and communication studies.
