James A Mackay

James Alexander Mackay (1936–2007) was a prolific Scottish writer, journalist, and philatelist who authored over 200 books and approximately 10,000 articles on subjects including philately, postal history, numismatics, biography, and Scottish history[1][2]. He was widely regarded as the world's greatest authority on Robert Burns and won the Saltire Award for his definitive biography of the poet[1][6]. Mackay died in Glasgow at age 70, though his reputation was later tarnished by a criminal conviction for theft and accusations of plagiarism[2][8].
