J. T. L. Preston (1811-1890) was an American officer, educator, and soldier who founded and shaped the Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Known as the 'Father of Virginia Military Institute,' he served as its superintendent and played a key role in its development, including during his association with Stonewall Jackson in the Confederate States Army.
