J. J. Gardner

John J. Gardner appears to refer to John Champlin Gardner Jr. (1933–1982), an American novelist, essayist, literary critic, and university professor best known for the novel *Grendel* and for his influential, sometimes controversial work on fiction and morality. He was a prolific postmodern writer whose books and criticism helped shape American literary debate in the 1970s and early 1980s.
