Itsuzo Shigematsu
Itsuzo Shigematsu was a Japanese physician and epidemiologist born in Osaka, educated at Osaka High School and Tokyo Imperial University, qualifying in medicine in 1931 before becoming a surgeon.[3] He served as chairman of the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF), leading studies on the long-term health effects of atomic bomb survivors in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and authored works such as 'Cancer in Atomic Bomb Survivors'.[2][4][5] He was affiliated with the United States Department of Energy and the Japanese Society of Public Health.[1][7]
