International Peace Academy

The International Peace Academy (IPA), now known as the International Peace Institute (IPI), is an independent non-profit think tank founded in 1970 in New York City by then-UN Secretary-General U Thant to promote the prevention and settlement of armed conflicts through policy research. Originally established as a training academy, it evolved into a policy-driven research institute and renamed itself IPI in early 2008 to reflect its mature identity. The organization remains based in New York and continues its mission of advancing peace, security, and sustainable development globally.
