Hugo Grotius
Hugo Grotius was a Dutch jurist, scholar, humanist, and diplomat best known for helping found modern international law. His most famous work, *De Jure Belli ac Pacis* (*On the Law of War and Peace*), made him a central figure in the development of natural law and the legal rules of war.
