Hugh Greene

Sir Hugh Carleton Greene was a prominent British journalist and television executive who served as Director-General of the BBC from 1960 to 1969, where he modernized the organization and expanded its international reach. Born in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, he began his career as a foreign correspondent reporting from Berlin and Warsaw before joining the BBC in 1940 to lead the German Service. He was also the younger brother of the renowned novelist Graham Greene.
