Hoyt L. Hickman
Hoyt Leon Hickman (1927-2016) was a pioneering United Methodist liturgist who transformed worship practices in The United Methodist Church. He served as Executive Secretary of the Commission on Worship (1968-1972) and Director of Worship Resources Development (1972-1993), creating the foundational 'Supplemental Worship Resources' series and overseeing development of The United Methodist Hymnal (1989) and The United Methodist Book of Worship. His work introduced the denomination to ecumenical worship resources and established him as the first dean of United Methodist liturgists.
