Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) is an American publishing company with roots tracing back to 1832 when William Ticknor and John Allen began publishing in Boston, later merging with Henry Oscar Houghton's Riverside Press to form Houghton Mifflin in 1880. The modern company formed in 2007 through the acquisition of Harcourt's education and trade businesses by Houghton Mifflin. Headquartered in Boston, HMH specializes in K-12 educational materials, textbooks, assessments, and trade books.[1][2][4]
