Horace Kephart
Horace Sowers Kephart (1862-1931) was an American travel writer and librarian best known for his memoir 'Our Southern Highlanders' and the classic outdoors guide 'Camping and Woodcraft.' After a distinguished career as a librarian, including directing the St. Louis Mercantile Library, he moved to the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina in 1904 where he lived among mountaineers and became instrumental in the creation of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
