Homer Hickam
Homer H. Hickam Jr., born in 1943 in Coalwood, West Virginia, is a bestselling author, Vietnam veteran, and former NASA aerospace engineer best known for his memoir Rocket Boys (1998), adapted into the film October Sky. Raised in a coal mining town, he pursued rocketry as a youth, later serving in the Army and working 17 years at NASA before becoming a prolific writer of memoirs and novels. He lives in Huntsville, Alabama, with his wife Linda.
