Hjalmar Bergman
Hjalmar Fredrik Elgérus Bergman (1883–1931) was a prominent Swedish writer and playwright known for his contributions to modernism, expressionism, psychological realism, and the early Swedish film industry through scripts for figures like Victor Sjöström. His works, including plays like marionette plays (1917), expressionistic plays (1918-1923), and realistic farces (1925-1930), blended comedy, tragedy, and social commentary, often drawing from his isolated childhood and personal struggles with health, alcoholism, and drug abuse. Despite limited international translations, he remains a key figure in Swedish literary and theatrical history.
