Herb Freudenberger

Herbert J. Freudenberger (1926–1999) was a German-born American psychologist and psychoanalyst renowned for being one of the first scholars to describe and study the phenomenon of burnout. He published the first scientific article on the burnout syndrome in 1974 and a landmark book on the topic in 1980, which became a key reference in the field. In 1999, he received the American Psychological Association's Gold Medal for his contributions to psychology.
