Henry Stephens Salt was a British writer and social reformer born in India, renowned as a pioneering advocate for animal rights and vegetarianism. He founded the Humanitarian League in 1891 and influenced Mahatma Gandhi's adoption of vegetarianism through his writings and personal friendship. Salt authored nearly 40 books on social causes, including his seminal work 'Animals' Rights: Considered in Relation to Social Progress' (1892).
