Harvey Schmidt

Harvey Lester Schmidt was an American composer and illustrator best known for his collaboration with lyricist Tom Jones on the musical The Fantasticks, the longest-running musical in history which opened Off-Broadway in 1960. Together they created other notable works including 110 in the Shade and I Do! I Do!, earning Tony Award nominations for Best Composer and Lyricist. Born in Dallas, Texas, he studied art at the University of Texas where he met Jones, and continued creating musicals until Roadside in 2001.
