Hartung
Hans Hartung (1904–1989) was a pioneering German abstract painter and printmaker who settled in Paris and became a French citizen, known as a major figure of Gestural Abstraction and the 'father of tachism'. He fought in the French Foreign Legion during World War II, was imprisoned by the Gestapo, and later gained international acclaim for his dynamic, freely improvised style that influenced American abstract painters.
