Hans Mommsen

Hans Mommsen was a distinguished German historian and one of the most important contemporary historians of the Third Reich, known for his functionalist interpretation that Adolf Hitler was a 'weak dictator' and for arguing that the Holocaust resulted from cumulative radicalization rather than a systematic plan. He was a professor at the University of Bochum and a member of the Academia Europaea, descending from the Nobel Prize-winning historian Theodor Mommsen.
