Gwyn Campbell
Gwyn Campbell is a historian specializing in the economic and social history of the Indian Ocean region, particularly Malagasy history and slavery studies. Born in Fianarantsoa, Madagascar, to Welsh missionary parents and raised in southwest Wales, he holds degrees in economic history from the Universities of Birmingham and Wales. He is the founding Director of McGill University's Indian Ocean World Centre, former Canada Research Chair in Indian Ocean World History (2005-2019), and a pioneer in Indian Ocean Studies.
