Gwartney James
James D. Gwartney was a prominent American economist, Professor Emeritus at Florida State University, and holder of the Gus A. Stavros Eminent Scholar Chair, where he directed the Stavros Center for the Advancement of Free Enterprise and Economic Education.[1][2][4] He co-authored influential textbooks including *Economics: Private and Public Choice* (17th edition) and *Common Sense Economics*, and co-developed the Fraser Institute's *Economic Freedom of the World* report.[3][5] From 1999-2000, he served as Chief Economist of the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee, retiring in 2022 after 53 years of teaching.[1][4]
