Gregory Retallack

Gregory J. Retallack is a Professor Emeritus of Geological Sciences at the University of Oregon, specializing in paleobotany and paleosols, with research focused on the fossil record of soils, global climate change, mass extinctions, and the evolution of life on land. He earned a B.A. from Macquarie University in 1973 and a Ph.D. from the University of New England in 1978, both in Australia, and has been a faculty member at UO since 1981. His studies include soils in ape and human evolution in Kenya, grassland evolution in North America, dinosaur extinction in Montana, and ancient Mars environments.
