Gioconda San-Blas
Gioconda Cunto de San Blas is a Venezuelan molecular biologist and biochemist born in Caracas on December 14, 1943. She earned her chemistry degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh in 1972, specializing in the biochemistry and molecular biology of fungal pathogens. Since 2011, she has been the first woman to serve as president of the Academia de Ciencias Físicas, Matemáticas y Naturales de Venezuela and is an emerita researcher at the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas (IVIC).[1][3][5]
