George D. Colman
George Drumgoole Coleman (1795–1844) was Singapore's pioneer colonial architect, born in Drogheda, Ireland, who arrived in Singapore in 1822 and designed key early structures including the Residency House for Stamford Raffles, Armenian Church, and Maxwell's House.[1][3][4] Appointed Government Superintendent of Public Works in 1833, he shaped Singapore's architectural development and urbanization through public buildings, churches, markets, and land reclamation efforts.[1][3][5] Coleman Street and Coleman Bridge in Singapore are named after him, and he died in Singapore in 1844, buried on Fort Canning Hill.[1][3]
