Gay Wilson Allen
Gay Wilson Allen (1903–1995) was an American academic, writer, and renowned scholar of Walt Whitman, often called the dean of Whitman scholars. He taught English at institutions including Bowling Green State University from 1935 and New York University from 1946 until 1969, authoring key works like 'The Solitary Singer: A Critical Biography of Walt Whitman' and serving as lead editor on 'The Collected Writings of Walt Whitman.' His biographies also covered figures such as William James, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Waldo Emerson.[1][2][3]
