Stephen Gaukroger (1950–2023) was a British-born historian of philosophy and science, renowned for his work on Descartes and the emergence of scientific culture in early modernity. He held positions at the University of Sydney from 1981, becoming Emeritus Professor of History of Philosophy and History of Science. His major publications include Descartes: An Intellectual Biography (1995) and a quartet of books on science and modernity published by Oxford University Press.
