Gary Catalano

Gary Catalano (1947-2002) was an Australian poet and art critic who became prominent as a regular art critic for news periodicals, including The Age from 1985-1990. He published widely on both art and literature, authoring eleven books including poetry collections and critical works such as The Years of Hope: Australian Art and Criticism 1959-1968 (1980). In the last decade of his life, he focused on poetry, publishing four volumes between 1991 and 1998, with The Empire of Grass winning the Grace Leven Prize for Poetry in 1992.
