Gaius Suetonius

Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus, commonly known as Suetonius, was a Roman historian and biographer of the early Imperial era, best known for his work 'De vita Caesarum' (The Twelve Caesars), a collection of biographies of twelve successive Roman rulers from Julius Caesar to Domitian. Born around 69 CE in Hippo Regius, Africa (modern Annaba, Algeria), he served as a private secretary to Emperor Hadrian and wrote extensively on Roman politics, oratory, and the lives of famous literary figures. His work remains a landmark in the development of biography and a key source for understanding Rome's transition from republic to monarchy.
