Friedrich D. E. Schleiermacher
Friedrich Daniel Ernst Schleiermacher (1768–1834) was a German Reformed theologian, pastor, philosopher, and biblical scholar widely regarded as the father of modern liberal theology. He sought to reconcile Christianity with Enlightenment thought and made major contributions to hermeneutics, philosophy of religion, and Protestant theology. He also helped shape the intellectual life of early 19th-century Germany, including through his work at the University of Berlin.
