Frederick Wiseman
Frederick Wiseman was an American filmmaker and documentarian born in Boston, Massachusetts, who became renowned for his direct cinema approach to exploring American institutions. After serving as a law professor at Boston University, he began his filmmaking career in the mid-1960s with his groundbreaking documentary Titicut Follies (1967), which exposed conditions at a mental asylum. Over nearly six decades, he produced approximately 45-50 documentaries characterized by their complexity, narrative power, and humanist perspective, earning him an Honorary Academy Award and MacArthur Prize Fellowship.
