Frank Deford
Frank Deford was a renowned American sportswriter, author, and commentator, best known for his long-form features at Sports Illustrated from 1962 to 1989 and beyond, as well as his NPR commentaries on Morning Edition from 1980 to 2017.[1][2] He authored 18 books, including nine novels like Everybody's All-American, pioneered literary sports journalism, and served as national chairman of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for 16 years after his daughter's diagnosis.[2][5] Deford received numerous accolades, including six National Sportswriter of the Year awards, induction into the Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame, and the 2012 National Humanities Medal.[1][4]
