Frances Johnston Nash

Frances Benjamin Johnston (1864–1952) was an American photographer and photojournalist whose career spanned nearly half a century, known for her portraits, images of southern architecture, and photographic series featuring African Americans and Native Americans. She was the first official White House photographer, serving five presidencies starting with Grover Cleveland, and was recognized as a staunch feminist who campaigned for greater recognition of women photographers in the United States.
