Erwin Tschirner

Erwin Tschirner is a German applied linguist and internationally recognized authority on foreign language learning, methodology, corpus linguistics, testing, and materials design. He held the position of Gerhard-Helbig-Professor of German as a Foreign Language and Applied Linguistics at the Herder Institute of the University of Leipzig since 1998 and is now Professor Emeritus. He is a co-author of Kontakte, the most widely used American textbook for German, and has made significant contributions to grammar acquisition, computer-assisted language learning, and vocabulary knowledge research.
