Erna Paris
Erna Paris (née Newman) was a Canadian author, journalist, and human rights activist known for her works on historical memory, trauma, injustice, and tolerance in pluralistic societies. Born in Toronto on May 6, 1938, she earned a BA from the University of Toronto and studied at the Sorbonne, beginning her career in the 1970s as a magazine journalist and radio documentarian. She authored seven acclaimed books of literary non-fiction, including Long Shadows: Truth, Lies and History, and won numerous awards before dying of cancer on February 3, 2022, at age 83.
