Erich Auerbach

Erich Auerbach was a German philologist and literary critic, best known for his seminal work 'Mimesis: The Representation of Reality in Western Literature', which traces the representation of reality in Western literature from Homer to Virginia Woolf. He fled Nazi Germany and spent his later years in the United States, teaching at Yale University. His work remains foundational in comparative literature and literary theory.
