Emanuel Swedenborg
Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) was a Swedish scientist, philosopher, inventor, and theologian who initially made significant contributions to fields like mathematics, geology, astronomy, and anatomy, including editing Sweden's first scientific journal and proposing the nebular hypothesis. In his fifties, following visionary experiences around 1744, he shifted focus to mystical theology, interpreting the Bible's spiritual meanings in works like Arcana Caelestia (1749-1756) and Heaven and Hell (1758), envisioning a reformed Christianity centered on Christ without founding a new denomination.
