Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806–1861) was a prominent English poet of the Victorian era, renowned for her love poems in Sonnets from the Portuguese and the verse novel Aurora Leigh, considered an early feminist text.[1][3] Born into a wealthy family with Jamaican plantation roots, she began publishing poetry as a child prodigy and became a vocal advocate against slavery, child labor, and for Italian unification after eloping with Robert Browning in 1846 and moving to Florence.[2][4][6] Despite chronic health issues, her work addressed social injustices and earned her international acclaim.[3][8]
