Elaine Sciolino

Elaine Sciolino is a contributing writer and former Paris bureau chief for The New York Times, based in Paris since 2002, and author of six books on French culture, history, and international affairs, including The Seine, The Only Street in Paris, and Adventures in the Louvre. A native of Buffalo, New York, she began her journalism career at Newsweek, later becoming a national correspondent in Chicago, foreign correspondent in Paris, bureau chief in Rome, and the first woman Edward R. Murrow Press Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in 1982-1983. She serves on the Executive Committee of Reporters Without Borders and has been decorated as a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honour.
