Edwin Sir 1832-1904 Arnold

Sir Edwin Arnold (1832-1904) was an English poet, journalist, and Oriental scholar, best known for his epic poem 'The Light of Asia' (1879), which narrates the life and teachings of the Buddha. Educated at Oxford, he served as principal of Deccan College in Poona, India (1856-61), and later became a prominent editor at the Daily Telegraph. His works often explored Eastern religions, including 'Pearls of the Faith' on Islam and translations of the Bhagavad Gita.
