Edward Kohn

Eduardo Kohn is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at McGill University and winner of the 2014 Gregory Bateson Prize. He is best known for his book 'How Forests Think,' in which he uses Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory to argue that all life forms engage in processes of signification and should be considered capable of thinking and learning. His work proposes that selfhood extends beyond humans to any entity that communicates through signs, creating a complex 'ecology of selves.'
